Gain Valuable Work Experience While You Study At George Brown College
Toronto is home to most of Canada’s major employers in financial services, tourism, fashion, software development, manufacturing, communications, entertainment, design and health services. For example, GM, Ford, IBM, TD Bank, and the Toronto Stock Exchange all have their offices in and around Toronto. George Brown College with its downtown location offers you unparalleled opportunities to gain valuable work experience with leading multinational employers while attending college and after graduation.
Co-operative education (co-op) is an important component of many of the Business/Financial programs at George Brown. Students spend at least one full-time, four-month paid or unpaid work term in a job related to their field of study. Many graduates of co-op programs find full-time employment with their previous co-op employer. For more information, visit: georgebrown.ca/coop.
Work placement (externship/practicum/clinical/field placement):
Many of our programs build work experience into the core curriculum. Early Childhood Development students, for example, work alongside child care experts in one of George Brown College’s own nine day care centres. Many of our Hospitality students do their externships in global hotel chains located just blocks from the College.
Working on-campus:
If you are a registered, full-time student with a Study Permit you are able to work on-campus without having a work permit. To see if you qualify check Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s guidelines for students.
Off-campus work permit:
You can apply for an off-campus work permit that allows you to gain valuable work experience and earn extra income while studying in Canada. To be eligible for this program you must have a valid Study Permit, be registered in a full-time program, be in good academic standing, and have completed 6 months of full-time study. For information on how to apply, visit the CIC website.
Post-Graduation Work Permit: You are also permitted to work and earn income for up to 3 years in Canada after graduation. Toronto offers one of the most vibrant and diverse employment markets in Canada for you to add North American employment experience to your resume.
